The chart is calculated, not guessed.
You give the date, time, and place you were born. An astronomical engine works out where the Sun, the Moon, and each planet stood at that minute, seen from that place. Hitaishi uses Vedic astrology (Jyotish), the sidereal system from India. It measures the planets against the fixed stars.
You do this once. Your birth chart never changes. Everything else Hitaishi tells you is read from it.
The engine also casts a few divisional charts. Each one is a closer look at a single area of life, such as career or money. Hitaishi reads the ones your question needs.
If you do not know your birth time, give the date and place. The reading of your wiring still holds up. Some timing answers come back a little less precise, and the answer says so.

The bias that repeats
Every chart has a weak spot. At work it shows up as a habit you repeat: you undercharge, you avoid the hard talk, you say yes before you think. Hitaishi names it, so you can catch it in time.
What is live right now
Vedic astrology splits life into long planetary chapters, with shorter stretches inside each one. The chapter you are in tells you what this season rewards, and when it turns.

You do not need to know astrology. Every answer explains the part of the chart it used. These are the only ideas you will meet:

- A map of where the planets were at the minute and place you were born. It is calculated, not guessed, and it never changes.
- Houses
- Twelve areas of life. One is the money you earn. One is the work you are known for. One is your network and your gains. A strong house shows where life comes easy. A weak house shows where it takes effort.
- Planets
- Drives inside you. Saturn is discipline and delay. Jupiter is growth and good counsel. Venus is craft, taste, and being valued. Mars is drive and the will to assert yourself. Mercury is thinking, words, and deals. The Sun is authority and visibility. The Moon is your mind and mood.
- Chapters (dashas)
- Your life runs in long planetary chapters, with shorter stretches inside each one. Each chapter is led by one planet, so one drive sets the tone for that season.
- Your year
- A chart cast for each birthday. It shows which drive leads the twelve months ahead.
Each kind of question reads its own part of the chart.
A question about work does not read all twelve houses. It reads the houses that rule that kind of question, and the planets that sit in them. Some examples:
- A raise, a rate, what to charge. The house of money you earn, and the house of network and gains.
- A promotion or a new title. The house of work you are known for, and the divisional chart for career.
- A job offer or a move. The house of work you are known for, the house of gains, and the season you are in.
- A hard colleague or a difficult manager. The house of rivals and daily work, and the house of partners and agreements.
- What to say on Monday. The house of words and initiative, and Mercury, the drive for thinking, words, and deals.
Then it reads those houses against your season. The same strong house can give a different answer in a quiet chapter than in a live one.
Timing is read against the day you ask.
Each answer is read against the chapter and the stretch you are in on the day you ask, in your own time zone. When a question names a date, it reads that date.
The answer says when your current stretch ends. So you know how long the window is, and when the season turns.
It also reads the chart for your year. That chart is cast for each birthday, and it shows which drive leads the twelve months ahead.

A chart by itself is just geometry, a set of unconnected dots. The lines between them come from a very large body of interpretation that we have indexed and cross referenced: classical Vedic texts, recorded conversations between practitioners, long video lectures, public discussions, and generations of written interpretation.
No single source is treated as gospel. A connection makes it into your reading only when independent sources agree on it, and when it fits what your own history says about you. Where sources disagree, we weigh the disagreement instead of hiding it.
On top of the chart you add the lived layer: your answers to a few calibration questions, your work history if you import it, and the decisions you talk through over time. The chart gives the wiring. Your answers show how that wiring has played out in your life.
Your chart shows what you lean toward. You still decide.
